Netmarble is adapting Shangri-La Frontier for the first time, and it is closer than most announcements at this stage. The Seven Colossi releases in Japan later in 2026 on iOS, Android and PC, and it will be at Tokyo Game Show in September.

What is Shangri-La Frontier: The Seven Colossi?

A full-3D boss hunter built on the anime's world. The structure is in the title: the game revolves around bringing down seven enormous monsters called Colossi, and everything else serves that.

Combat is tag-based. You field two characters and swap between them mid-fight, which is where the strategic weight sits, not in reaction speed but in when you rotate, what you rotate into, and which chained attacks you set up across the handoff. Netmarble is pairing that with one-handed controls and deck combinations, so the intended shape is easy to hold and hard to master.

Playing as Sunraku with his partner Emul is the anchor. The latest PV centred on the two of them, showed off battle sequences, and gave a first look at an original boss monster built for the game rather than lifted from the anime, a small detail that says the project has budget for new content, not just licensed assets.

Why this IP is a bigger deal than it looks

Shangri-La Frontier is not a niche pickup. The series has passed one billion views in Japan and its manga has moved more than 17 million copies.

There is also a joke buried in this project that Netmarble cannot afford to miss. Shangri-La Frontier is about a gamer who specialises in playing deliberately terrible games, then turns his attention to one of the best. A licensed mobile adaptation of that premise is walking into a room where the protagonist himself is the harshest possible critic. Fans will notice if the game is shovelware. Three early signals suggest the studio understands the assignment: the game is full 3D, it carries original bosses rather than only licensed ones, and the character models were detailed enough for Netmarble to build a broadcast segment around them.

Where was it first shown?

Netmarble held a special online broadcast on July 7, 2026 for "ShanFro Day", a fan-run holiday for the series, streamed through the official Shangri-La Frontier anime YouTube channel.

The stream covered the anime's third season and then handed over to a dedicated game segment: the new PV, key visuals, in-game character models and skill animations. Running the game reveal inside an anime broadcast is a smart piece of targeting, the audience most likely to care was already watching.

A note on the title

English coverage renders the subtitle at least three ways: The Seven Colossi, Seven Bestiaries, and The Seven Strongest Species. Same game. The Japanese subtitle has no settled English translation and Netmarble's own materials have used more than one.
